Why Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea transfer deal is being held up

Chelsea’s attempt to sign Gonzalo Higuain  is still being held up while AC Milan  try to secure a replacement.

The Blues agreed a deal with Juventus late on Wednesday to sign the Argentina international on loan for the rest of the season, which will pave the way for Alvaro Morata to leave for Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea have already discussed personal terms with Higuain’s brother and agent Nicolas, and are prepared to take on his £150,000-a-week salary.

But the deal hinges on AC Milan finding a replacement before time runs out.

Higuain is on standby to fly into the capital in order to undergo a medical and sign the Chelsea contract in time for Saturday’s meeting with Arsenal.

Higuain must complete his switch by 12pm on Friday to be eligible for the match at Emirates Stadium.

His chances of doing so are boosted by the fact Milan are closing in on a deal for Genoa’s Krzysztof Piatek.
