Roma Sporting Director Passes On Chasing West Ham Star

Roma sporting director Monchi has declined to pursue the signature of West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna this winter.

The former Juventus centre-back has slowly grown into a key player under Manuel Pellegrini this season after initially struggling to convince the new West Ham manager.

Fabian Balbuena’s injury has allowed Ogbonna to make his way back into the scheme of things and he has started the last four league games for the Hammers.

But rumours surrounding his future at West Ham have continued to swirl and the Hammers have reportedly rejected an offer from Serie A outfit Bologna for the 30-year-old.

The former Juventus defender remains a coveted player in Italy and, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, his agents also proposed him to Roma this winter.

But it has been claimed that sporting director Monchi has rejected the offer and the club will not make any move for Ogbonna this month.

Roma are happy with the options they have in defence and do not feel the need to add one more centre-back to their squad.

They could have also found it hard to convince West Ham to sell.
