Dusit attack: 21 confirmed dead, 5 terrorists eliminated, says Boinnet

Inspector General Joseph Boinnet has issued a statement to give an update of the Dusit attack.

This update comes after President Kenyatta’s  announcement on  the end of the successful Police operation in response to yesterday’s terror attack at Dusit Hotel complex.

Boinnet has revealed that after further forensic work and final tally by DCI the death toll  has hit 21 and 5 terrorists have been eliminated.

From the statement issued by the National Police Service,  the following are the nationalities of the persons who lost their lives:

  •  16 Kenyan nationals.
  •  1 Briton.
  •  1 American.
  •  3 persons of African descent yet to be identified.

Boinnet  confirmed that subsequent investigations by the DCI have yielded arrest of two key suspects believed to have facilitated the attack and are in custody assisting Police with the investigations.

He also thanked all Kenyans for the patience and cooperation during the course of their operations.

“I also wish to commend our gallant officers and other members of the multi-agency security teams as well as emergency response teams and our hospitals who supported us during the operations for the work well done.” he added

He also made an appeal to Kenyans; to continue cooperating with the Police and all security agents in their joint effort to counter terrorism as well as all form of crime.

In the same breath, we would appreciate if the media also refrained from speculative reporting on this matter that could jeopardise on-going investigations
