‘Lazy’ Liverpool’s Man Comes Under Fire

Daniel Sturridge is a ‘disgrace’ and should not be a Liverpool player any more – that’s the view of BBC Sussex commentator Warren Aspinall.

Speaking over the weekend, as the Reds beat Brighton by a Mo Salah goal to nil, Aspinall launched the scathing attack on the former England international.

Via the Daily Star, he said: “If I was the chairman I’d get him off the wage bill.

“I think sometimes his body language is a disgrace, sometimes he’s lazy, and not really a Liverpool player since this manager’s taken over.”

Sturridge had a poor game against Wolves in the FA Cup on his last start for the club, but has been important off the bench this season against the likes of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and scored the opener against PSG in the Champions League.

The criticism seems way over the top – and is probably a reaction to the Wolves game more than anything else.

Given Sturridge only had Divock Origi alongside him that night, and no player in red really shone at Molineux – youngster Ki-Jana Hoever aside – it seems harsh to judge him on that.

With no incomings likely this month, Sturridge is almost certain to be staying put at least until the summer. By that point, though, his contract will be expired, and he may be looking for a move.
