Barcelona boss makes transfer news on Coutinho amid £100m Man Utd ‘talks

Manchester United have opened talks to sign Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window, according to a sensational report.

Caught Offside suggest United are one of a number of sides looking to secure a move for the former Liverpool midfielder in the current transfer window.

The Brazil international Coutinho joined the Catalan club last year from Liverpool for a staggering £144 million.

The midfielder has yet to justify his hefty price, though, and has recently found himself playing second fiddle to Ivan Rakitic.

Coutinho hasn’t started a match since December 2, which has prompted speculation over his future with Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Amor has insisted the 26-year-old won’t be leaving the Nou Camp anytime soon and believes he has ‘a lot to give’ Barca in the coming years.

“Coutinho’s a player with a lot of experience, one of the best players in Europe and he is ready to play [for] five minutes or 90 minutes,” Amor said during an interview with Movistar.

“He’s a player that thinks more about the team than himself and there are no doubts about him being one of the best players in the world.

“He’s always played well for Barca, he could play [every game] from the off.

“Barca signed him because he’s one of the best in the world and he’s going to give us a lot.

“He’s got many years left on his contract and a lot to give to Barcelona.”

Amor’s comments on Coutinho’s future come less than 24 hours after it was reported that Manchester United have made an approach for the former Liverpool man.

According to Caught Offside, the Red Devils have asked Barca if they’re willing to part company with the Brazilian this month.

They claim a move for the talented playmaker would cost United in excess of £100million.

A deal for Coutinho seems highly unlikely given the fact he has four-and-a-half years left on his current contract with the La Liga champions.

United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also seemingly ruled out the prospect of any January arrivals, saying: “I don’t expect anyone to come in.

“Obviously if the club have targeted and identified a few and I think they might fit here then I’ll give my thumbs up

“But it’s not just my decision. I’m happy with the squad I’ve got.”

Coutinho and his Barcelona team-mates will be back in action on Thursday, travelling to Valencia to take on Levante in the Carabao Cup.

United, meanwhile, face title-chasing Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
