Confusion and rage following government's warning against backdoor admission of Form Ones

The order, which was issued by the Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed on Thursday, January 3, 2019, has also been met with strong resistance from the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and other education stakeholders.

It was learnt that KUPPET was even threatening to move to court to challenge the stringent Form One admission guideline, which they described as bureaucratic and retrogressive. “We may be forced to go to court if the directive will not be rescinded because it does not add any value to education.

The CS Amina Mohamed has gone overboard with these changes,” KUPPET’s national vice chairman, Julius Korir, said as quoted by the Standard. The teacher’s union alleged the government’s directive had caused confusion in the admission of Form Ones and left parents whose sons and daughters are expected to report to school as from Monday, January 7, inconvenienced and frustrated.

Meanwhile, a section of Kenyans also took to the social media platforms to express their rage at the government’s fresh orders on admission of Form One students, with many claiming it could lock out some of the students who cannot afford schools fees for the institutions they are ‘being forced’ to join.
