Manchester City warned against risking De Bruyne

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany has asked boss Pep Guardiola not to risk Kevin De Bruyne against Liverpool on Thursday night.

Kompany is hoping Guardiola will take caution when it comes to deciding whether or not to start De Bryune against league leaders. The Belgian returned to training on Wednesday, with Guardiola confirming that he will be in contention to face the Reds.

“He trained today but tomorrow we need another check in the morning. He’s much better,” Guardiola said on Wednesday.

However, Kompany hopes the boss won’t take any risks with his teammate despite the importance of the game, citing that City still has key games ahead.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “We all know Kevin’s strengths and his ability to change a game. I really don’t know what physical state he is in. He seems to be alright but in a way I feel this season still has so much to offer. If I had to decide myself, what I would prefer is for Kevin to be fit for the rest of the season.”

“Everybody is focused on Liverpool but there is much more we’ll need him for.”

The Citizens go into the game seven points behind Liverpool in the title race, with a defeat extending that gap to 10.
