Teacher on the run after impregnating a minor!

Will government win the fight against teen pregnancy?

Police in Misikhu Ward, Bungoma county are looking for a Lukhuna primary school teacher who is alleged to be on the run after impregnating a Class Seven pupil.

Reports indicated Daniel Mwibanda convinced and engaged in a love affair with the the 15-year-old girl hence impregnating her.

The suspect also tried to convince the underage girl to carry out an abortion with the help of a nurse at a local clinic on December 24, 2018.

“It is during this time that the teacher convinced me to follow him so that we can meet his personal doctor for further medical check up,” narrated the girl. She tried to resist but on further convincing, she accompanied him to a nearby clinic in Misikhu market.

At the clinic, two tablets were inserted in her cervix , one given as an injection on her arm and on instructions, she was told to visit the hospital once she felt some labour pains.

Few days later while at home, she started bleeding and was rushed to hospital but on arrival, her situation worsened and she was referred to St Emmanuel hospital in Misikhu market.

Unfortunately, she had already aborted but the fetus remained in the womb causing her more complications.

“We will use all means to ensure the culprit is brought to book, we can’t allow our teachers to turn on their pupils and put them in fthe amily way,” said the school Board of Management chairman Abel Busuru.

“This is wrong, we will not allow teachers who are expected to teach pupils turn against them and sleep with them,” said the school head teacher Pamela Kituyi .

The victim’s mother who was all along aware of the pregnancy narrated how she had struggled with her daughter on Monday, December 24, while urging police officers to arrest the suspect.

The victim who is now recuperating in hospital following the forced abortion claimed to have been friends with the teacher for six months and they often met at water points.

However, Webuye OCPD Zaccheaus Ng’eno said neither the parents nor the school head teacher had reported the matter to the police following the incident.

“I have send my officers to go and get clear facts before we deal with the suspect, for now we haven’t received any information concerning the matter,” he said.
