NTSA wataki mchezo!Motorists risk arrest over fare hike

Since the start of festive season, motorists have been harassing passengers with the double charges of the bus fares,however The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has warned operators against the abnormal fare increment and using private vehicles to ferry travellers.

In an exercise dubbed “Operation Elimisha”, the Road Safety Director Njeri Waithaka said both drivers and passengers must be aware of the Dos and Dont’s.

During the operation, one driver who was found drunk was arrested.

This comes just two weeks after the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet announced the launch of daytime alco-blow check on the roads.

 

Meanwhile, there was a huge traffic snarl up on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway as motorists found as section of the road blocked by striking residents from Saghalla.

The residents claimed that elephants were destroying their crops.  The demonstrations saw travellers stranded for several hours.

Most Kenyans have begun to travel back from the countryside and the coastal region where they spent the holidays.
