Nyanza high school that has dwarfed the likes of Maranda & Maseno with excellent performance

The recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results came with a lot of surprises. During the release, Education CS Amina Mohammed revealed that most students who had performed dismally in their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) later turned out to.

Amina also pointed out that most schools that were in the past identified as academic giants had been floored by less popular institutions.

In Nyanza Region, all the 283 candidates who sat for their national exams at Orero Secondary Schools managed to secure direct university entry.

Two learners, Odumbe Luckywillis Mwabi and Okoth Ishmael Oketch took lead of the class and attained A plain. They were trailed closely by 36 students who managed A-, B+ (83) and 121 others who scored B plain. Some 38 other candidates score B- last three scored C+.

The school emerged top in Homa Bay County, first in Nyanza and ranked 9th nationally. It dwarfed the likes of Maranda, Maseno, Kanyawanga, Kanga, Rapogi and Kisumu Girls that have for years dominated the list of best KCSE performers in the region.

School Principal Dicken Bula hailed his students for the performance and attributed the success to handwork and determination. “Early syllabus coverage and hard work are some of the key efforts that enabled my school to get the good results,” said Bula.

The extra county school achieved a mean score of 9.4134 against 10.283 (an equivalent of a B+) that they had envisioned to achieve in 2018.

Out of the 380 candidates who sat their exams at the school, 340 will proceed to university on direct basis.
