Apparently critics will always be there even in the most bizarre scenarios evoking questions of sanity.

After Justice Maraga’s unfortunate accident, there arose a heated debate on social media sites with those against Maraga saying church attendance was not part of his official responsibilities while his proponents questioned if the CJ ceased to be the holder of the vital public office on weekends.

The Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has silenced Kenyans accusing his successor David Maraga of abusing his official car by using it for personal errands.

Maraga’s official car got involved in an accident in Nakuru county on Saturday, December 22, when he was travelling with wife Yucabeth Nyaboke to attend a church service.

Responding to critics who said Maraga was wrong to cruise in his official car with wife to attend church service, Mutunga said his successor’s office had special security arrangement which was not flouted.

Mutunga went ahead to dispute accusations that Maraga had abused privilege of using government vehicle by giving his wife a lift.

The former CJ who served between 2011 and 2016 even explained that Maraga had forfeited two additional chase cars meant to beef his security and safety when the accident occurred and should not be a subject of negative criticism.

“There are rules about his security! He had a driver and a security officer. Indeed, security rules demand a lead car and chase car in his humble motorcade of 3 cars.

Are you suggesting he should not have given his wife a lift?” Mutunga posed the big question to the critics.
