There is a saying in the corridors of justice about Lawyer Cliff Ombeta. They say if Cliff Ombeta represents you then you are guilty. Whether this is true or false is subject to a lot of discussions which I don’t want to go into.

Some of Obado’s clients have been Moses Dola who recently pleaded guilty to killing his wife; former NTV reporter Wambui Kabiru. Dola was also the lawyer of the infamous Akasha brothers who pleaded guilty to three counts of drug trafficking in a US court.

Currently the top criminal lawyer is representing Migori governor Okoth Obado in the case in which he has been charged with the murder of his 26 year old girlfriend Sharon Otieno and their seven month unborn son. Obado’s case is set to begin in May next year.

But Ombeta has just acquired another client. And as expected, a murder suspect.

The lawyer is representing Grace Kanamu Namulo, the woman accused of stabbing and killing TV actor Jamal Nassor ‘Baba Junior’

According to the police report, Ms Namulo is alleged to have stabbed the actor at Arks Hotel in Mlolongo.

“It was reported that Jamal Nassor, 39, was having a party at Arks Hotel near 67 Airport Hotel on the night of December 11, 2018. There was a quarrel between him and his friend Grace Kanamu Namulo, 40. She picked a knife and stabbed him,” the police report states.

The case has taken a controversial turn after three important witnesses went missing prompting the prosecution to ask the court for more time to conduct investigation and determine whether to charge the suspect or not.

Grace Kanamu Namulo

The High Court in Machakos ordered  Grace Kanamu Namulo be detained until December 27 to allow prosecution conducts further investigation. Ms Namulo was arraigned before the court on Tuesday but did not take plea.

The prosecution told the court that three witnesses, who are key to the investigations, cannot be traced. But the defence argued against holding the suspect for more days citing the case of Migori Governor Okoth Obado in the murder of Sharon Otieno.

Last week, the Mavoko Law Courts detained Ms Namulo for five days to allow prosecution complete investigation.
