Quack doctor’ James Mugo alias Mugo wa Wairimu and his two employees have been charged afresh before a Nairobi court.

Mugo and his co-accused Victor Gathiru , alias Doctor Victor, and Risper Ouma appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku today where they  charged with unlawfully carrying out the business of a pharmacist while not registered by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

The three pleaded not guilty to the charges after the court allowed the prosecution’s request for more time to consolidate the case.

Prosecution stated that on November 3, 2018, the three operated the Millan Health International Limited in Kayole, Nairobi county without a license. Gathiru and Ouma were further charged with carrying out the business of a pharmacist in a premise not registered by the board.

In the last count, they were charged with operating a medical laboratory without registration and licence from the Kenya Medical Laboratory and Technologists Board.

In the ruling made today, the Magistrate ruled that Mugo be remanded pending hearing on February 7, 2019 and mention on January 3, 2019. The prosecution had asked the court to deny Mugo bond because he has a proven that he can jump bail.

The two co-accused were earlier released on bail terms of Ksh. 200,000 each.
