List of charges NCPB officials released on ksh.5m bond faced

Truly as Uhuru declared they may run but they can’t hide.The lights have been turned on and the public exploiters have been exposed in plenty.As the tough war on graft continues, the law is working on suspects daily in the Kenyan courts.

Eleven suspects among officials of the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) were Thursday arraigned at the Kisumu Law Courts over the multi-million maize scandal at NCPB.

They were charged with conspiracy to commit an economic crime and willful failure to comply with laws and applicable procedures and guidelines relating to the management of public funds contrary to the law.

The 11 suspects are accused that between October 11, 2017 and June 1, 2018, they conspired to jointly defraud the cereals board of Ksh.110 million.

They suspects include; Renson Kibet Korir (Silo Manager, Eldoret), Willy Kipkoech Kosgei (Silo Manager, Kisumu), Jeremiah Omutsani Omwayi (Deputy Silo Manager, Kisumu), Laban Momanyi Michira (Cashier, NCPB Kisumu) and Thomas Kipkurgat Sang (Extension Officer, Soi Ward).

Others were Sinonim Assistant Chief David Barngetuny Korir and a trader Caroline Chepchumba, Rodney Kimutai, Victoria Jebet Rotich, Rodney Kimutai, Stephen Kiprob Maiyo, Thomas Kipkurgat Sang and David Barng’etuny Korir.

The accused denied the charges and were released on a Ksh.5 million bond.

The officials of the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB)were arrested in Kisumu and Eldoret over alleged fraudulent acquisition of public funds in the maize scandal.

The NCPB officers were apprehended alongside  other individuals by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday evening.
