Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Wednesday extended a kind gesture to coast residents as part of Jamhuri Day celebrations.
“In line with our tradition of commemorating Jamhuri Day, I have waived all bills for patients in all our County Hospitals who have been discharged but are unable to settle their bills.
“Let’s continue fostering harmonious relations, promoting cohesion and peaceful co-existence,” Joho stated.
The County boss also thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for decorating me with a State Commendation of Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) award.
“This honour is not just in recognition of my personal efforts but for the people of Mombasa, Coast region and the country at large,” he added.
Other leaders feted on the 55th Jamhuri Day celebrations alongside Joho is Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru and Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji.
In the list gazetted by the Head of State, the Kirinyaga County boss received the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) award while the DPP received the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS).
“This is a recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities,” Uhuru’s gazette notice read.
DCI director Kinoti George Maingi the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) alongside Ichungwah Anthony Kimani (Kikuyu), Gideon Moi Kipsiele Towett (Baringo), Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini), ODM’s Agnes Zani and Sakaja Johnston Arthur (Nairobi) among others.
Kenyans, however, expressed their concern after President Uhuru left out the marathon world record holding athlete Eliud Kipchoge’s name in the awards list.
Kenyans expressed that Kipchoge, who has had quite a successful year in his Athletics career deserved to receive the Elder of the Golden Heart Award (EGH) for flying the Kenyan flag high.
Kipchoge has received two presidential awards so far, the Chief Order of the Burning Spear(CBS) and the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW).
