“Everyone accompanying the President during his tour is welcome in Nyanza. If Ruto will be part of the President’s entourage, he is most welcome,” said Okello. The President is expected in the counties of Kisumu and Siaya to preside over the launch of a pilot phase of the Universal Health Coverage.

Nyikal said that no leader in the region was opposed to the deputy president accompanying the Head of State, who will be visiting the lake side town for first time since the March 9 handshake with opposition leader Raila Odinga. “We believe Kenya must heal and move forward as one united nation,” said Dr Nyikal.

He said the President’s visit would help in the reconciliation process following the 2017 volatile election politics. The legislators said leaders in the region would hold a meeting with Uhuru, which they will use to present projects they want the national government to initiate in the region that voted almost to a man to Uhuru’s political nemesis in the 2017 presidential polls.

“We know people have great expectations and they are right. But we want to assure them that as leaders, we have an opportunity to have a round table with the Head of State and they can rest assured that we will raise matters of their well-being,” said Nyikal.
