Jamhuri Day is celebrated on 12th December. This time round Kenya celebrates 55 years since we were unhooked from the chains of the colonialists.
Jamhuri is Swahili for Republic and as such Jamhuri Day is also known as Republic Day or Independence Day.
It is a public holiday that marks two events. It celebrates Kenya becoming a republic on 12 December 1964, and also marks Kenya’s independence from the United Kingdom a year earlier on 12 December 1963.
Jamhuri Day is one of Kenya’s most important holidays due to its historical significance. The day is celebrated with many events such as feasts, political speeches and parades, all of which celebrate the country’s cultural heritage.
Due to its position in the calendar, Jamhuri Day is also seen as the start of the Christmas period, and the start of the Christmas shopping period.
But from the look of things Kenyans are not happy at all. Kenyans on social media have taken on social media to raise their concerns.
After 55 years of indipendence
-Corruption taken center stage
-Looting is on daily basis
-Tribalism at its best
-Hypocrisy

Corruption is the main menace affecting the country. In less than a month major corruption scandals have been unraveled. The amount of money lost through those corruption schemes is just overwhelming.
If you're not a "profiteerer" or a beneficiary of the States laundering schemes, here is our tag of the day. Ignore media driven tags we are innamess! There's nothing to celebrate and everything to rant about.#NotYetJamhuri pic.twitter.com/J3cjornIks

The youths have also raised their dissatisfaction with the government. This comes after the President appointed the 91 old Moody Awori to lead a sports docket. In Justification of his appointment he said that youths are always ready to steal from the public funds.

Economy is crumbling,
Massive Profit warnings,
Businesses closing down,
No political good will to fight corruption,
Deteriorating healthcare,
Inflated cost of living,
High unemployment rate,
Neo-colonialism,
Unsustainable debt
Nepotism and ethnic appointments.#NotYetJamhuri— Sheehraw (@Sheehraw) December 12, 2018
They have even hit hard on the president failed promises. Like the promise of laptops to all class one students did not happen. The state of their learning environment is just devastating.
