KPL Holders Gor Mahia will return to action this Friday when they face Nigerian Champions Lobi Stars in the first leg of the CAF CL on Friday.

The green army will be hoping to salvage their season with a win after suffering a 2-1 defeat against boggy boys Bandari FC in Mombasa over the weekend in the KPL open.

Gor have started the season in an underwhelming fashion, and they risk going under if something is not done. Of all the talk about a poor season start, there is one worrying statistic that should worry fans.

Gor have not scored more than one goal this season. This is a very worrying statistic for a team that scored more than 100 goals in all competitions last season.

They need an injury time goal from substitute Benard Ondiek to see off Malaw’s Nyasa Big Bullets in the first leg of the the CAF CL two weeks ago. That was their first match of the season.

The team lost by 0-1 scoreline to Kariobangi Sharks in the KPL super cup. They went ahead to loss by the same scoreline in Malawi, but proceeded to the next round after thriving on post match penalties.

On Saturday, new signing Nicholas Kipkirui scored the consolation as they lost 2-1 to the dockers. The results mean that Gor have failed to score in two of the matches that they have played this season.

Most of the issues have to do with the absence of lethal striker Jacques Tuyisenge. The Rwandese import who was the club’s top scorer last season limped out of the Kariobangi clash and has not played since.

After the Bandari match, coach Zedekiah Otieono said that the club really misses Tuyisenge. But there have been talks at the club suggesting Tuyisenge may be on his way out of the club.

This means that Gor will have to deal with their available players in the meantime. It is going to be a tough season.
