Did West Pokot governor John Lonyangapuo’s efforts to save a boda boda rider land him into problems? The Council of Governors (CoG) has demanded for the immediate restoration of the security of the County boss.
This was through a a statement issued Sunday by CoG chairman and Turkana County governor Josphat Nanok.
The West Pokot’s County Chief’s security detail was withdrawn earlier this week after he stormed a roadblock and freed a boda boda rider allegedly arrested for flouting traffic rules.
In the statement, Nanok warned the police that such actions could never be repeated.
“The withdrawal of the Governor’s security personnel demonstrates a clear conflict between discharge of public duties and fulfillment of personal interests, whether directly or indirectly.
“The Inspector-General must take action in this matter, and seek to formally communicate to the Governor and immediately replace the officers. The actions witnessed must not be repeated ever again,” it read in part.
Nanok emphasized that the action was taken without any formal notice to the Governor.
Security teams stationed at the Governor’s home and office were withdrawn shortly after the incident.
Lonyangapuo had pushed aside metal spikes set up by the traffic police and ordered them to leave the area.
The infuriated Governor accused the officers of seeking to harass and extort the youth before freeing the boda boda rider.
West Pokot County Police Commandant Mathews Kuto stated that investigations were ongoing into the November 28 incident to establish the facts of the matter.
This happens as West Pokot residents also demand restoration of their boss’ security in what they threatened to provide security themselves should the government fail.

Do you think the government was right to withdraw governor Lonyangapuo’s security detail?
