This directive comes after the lawyer to the first accused, Mr. Marangu requested that his client’s academic and birth certificates be surrendered to his client if they will not be used as exhibits in the case. The two documents are currently being held by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI).

The lawyer also sought that the accused be remanded in prison because he has been in a police cell since October 29 when he took plea on the murder case.

Maribel Kapolon was found dead on September 16, 2018 with her body mutilated and decomposing in Upper Imenti after she had been reported missing ten days earlier after being dropped by the school bus.

According to North Imenti Deputy county commissioner Isaac Masinde, the girl was picked by a man known to her as ‘uncle’ whom they believe was Benson Kimathi Marangu.

“The man called her and she rushed to him shouting ‘habari uncle.’ There was no commotion hence her colleagues and those in nearby shops could not suspect anything sinister. Detectives have been questioning family members to unearth the motive of the kidnappers,” said Mr. Masinde.

After the incident, an unidentified caller told the family to pay Ksh.500,000 ransom but there was no follow-up for the payment.
