Do you recall Dedan Kimathi one of Kenya’s foremost freedom fighter? He fought for freedom and peace of the nation but now his family is as well fighting for their own.

Mukami’s daughter Evelyne Kimathi on Wednesday protested that her mother’s security both in Nairobi and her Njabini home in Kinangop were withdrawn under unclear circumstances.

Kinangop deputy county commissioner Daniel Nyameti has dismissed claims that the State has withdrawn the security of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi’s widow Mukami Kimathi. He added that the granny’s security is guaranteed and can never be compromised.

“She is allocated two armed security officers who are always at her disposal,” he said.

Nyameti said the government is not aware of any security issue concerning Mukami. He said anybody stating otherwise is spreading rumours.

He, however, did not speak about Mukami’s driver who the family claimed was disarmed and withdrawn a year ago.

Evelyne earlier said Mukami’s driver was first disarmed and then asked to abandon the post about a year ago under unclear circumstances.

She claimed two of Mukami’s other aides were withdrawn a week ago. “We are wondering what wrong we have committed to warrant this.”

Nyandarua county commissioner Boaz Cherutich said the issue could be a case of ‘some misinformation’.

“I checked with the officer in charge of the AP and they have not been withdrawn,” he said according to the star reports.

The family revealed earlier in their cry that their mother, 88, is stressed as the withdrawal of her security detail came days ahead of a planned three day meeting with former freedom fighters.

Over 400 freedom fighters are set to converge at her Kinangop home in Nyandarua County for the purpose of reaching  out a way forward on how the former freedom fighters would acquire land to settle in Laikipia County.

“Our mother is now stressed and does not know why her security had been withdrawn at this particular time when freedom fighters plan to meet at her residence over the weekend.

“The weekend meeting is not a political meeting as some people perceive. We only want to settle the landless former freedom fighters on a land that we have identified in Laikipia,” she said.

The younger Ms Kimathi who is also the founder of Dedan Kimathi Foundation, said efforts by the family to get official communication from the government over the new developments has not been fruitful.

Between the government and Kimathi’s family who do you think is lying?
