The Battle of the Cartels: A Case of Kipchumba Murkomen Vs Joshua Kutuny

When news went round that Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny will be on the same panel for a discussion on live TV, Kenyans got excited because they all knew that was going to be an epic and in-depth discussion given the current political temperatures in the Rift Valley.

Murkomen is known to be a fierce defender of the Deputy President William Ruto while Joshua Kutuny is now a leader of a revolt against the DP.

Yesterday’s debate on Hussein Mohammed’s News Night on Citizen got even more personal with the two leaders tearing into one another.

The main purpose of the discussion to start with was to try and iron out issues surrounding the maize scandal and discuss the emerging split among Rift Valley Politicians.

On the Maize scandal, Kutuny stood his ground and insisted that DP Ruto come clean on the grave allegations labelled against him.

According to Kutuny, Ruto is the Chief Mastermind of the maize scandal. Kutuny and his other friends like Nandi Hills M Alfred Keter have dragged Ruto’s name into the maize scandal with claims that the DP even owns a 500,000 acre plantation of Maize in Congo. They have also claimed that Ruto has a well calculated move that includes discouraging farmers from engaging in Maize farming and has instead asked them to focus on Avocado and Macadamia Farming.

“The concerns are clear. The DP needs to come out of this matter of maize. One of companies associated with him is being investigated,”said Kutuny.

On the payment of large-sums of money to a few individuals by the National Cereals and Produce Board, Kutuny said that no individual can be paid large amounts of money since shelling of maize takes time.

“There is no day NCPB will pay someone more than 10M, even when you are a serious farmer. This is because shelling of the maize takes time,” added Kutuny

His assumptions did not go well with Kipchumba Murkomen who accused Kutuny of being part of the Akasha brothers drug menace that has even caught the attention of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in the United States.

Kipchumba claimed that Kutuny is on the radar of the FBI and should therefore trade carefully.

A section of Kenyan Politicians and Judicial Staff have been vastly mentioned in the Akasha brothers drug menace. Is Joshua Kutuny one of them? Well, Kipchumba Murkomen did not give any evidence to back his claims.

Things got even more heated after Kutuny hit back with claims that Murkomen was the one that helped in coaching ICC witnesses in a bid to have DP Ruto locked at the Hague.

Last week, Kutuny was the one accused of being the mastermind behind the alleged revival of Ruto’s ICC cases.

Former ICC witness William Rono claimed that there is an elaborate plan by ‘powerful individuals’ to revive the case against the Deputy President in a bid to stop him from vying for the presidency in 2022.

The witness, who recanted his evidence against Ruto and joined the DP’s defence team named Cheranganyi MP Joshua Kutuny as one of those working with State House operatives and ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to revive the case against Ruto before 2022.

Well, if Yesterday’s debate is anything to go by, William Ruto and his team still have a huge task ahead to try and come clean of all the allegations against them.
