Reckless texting that has sent NHIF bosses on forced leave

Most people have never realized that a single text message can send a person packing. It can really spark a lot of heat that calming is just hail difficult.

Simple text message has landed the top bosses of NHIF in hot soup that they are in the verge of even losing their careers over small and stupid mistakes.

It was claimed that Mr Mwangi directed Mr Kurgat not to furnish investigators with the vouchers that NHIF used to pay Webtribe. “Hi, do not give those guys. Tell its part of vouchers they took from your office. They also need to come to me,” a text message allegedly sent from Mwangi’s phone and submitted before the court read.
Kurgat allegedly replied with an “Ok”. Another text message allegedly sent by Mwangi read: “Do not give them, tell them you are looking for them, they give you time and they need to inform me. Actually, tell them they took them.’’

The board of the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has sent CEO Geoffrey Mwangi and acting Finance Director Wilbert Kurgat on compulsory leave, as investigations into the loss of cash at the insurer continues.

The two bosses have been in remand for the past five days after they were arrested for allegedly conspiring to defeat justice by denying investigators access to documents.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions have been investigating the insurer’s top management for corruption.

On Tuesday though, the board during a special board meeting resolved to replace the two embattled bosses.

Mr Mwangi was replaced with Mr Nicodemus Odongo who has been serving as the director in charge of strategy, planning and Marketing.

Mr Bernard Njenga, who has been the manager in charge of management and accounting, will occupy Mr Kurgat’s forward for now.
