The National Police Service deputy spokesman, Anthony Munga, says authorities have launched investigations into an incident in which a solo Tuk Tuk rider was captured on video stoning two traffic police officers on a road in Nakuru County.

Mr Munga says the cause of the scuffle between the parties is yet to be established.

“For now, we cannot authoritatively say who caused the violent attacks; it could be the traffic police officers captured on video, or the Tuk Tuk rider. Though, I can confirm that the incident happened in Nakuru County last weekend. Police have launched a search for the Tuk Tuk rider to help in investigations. The police officers [in the video] will also give their side of the story as well. What was captured on the video clip is just a small part of the confrontations. So, I wouldn’t say that the Tuk Tuk rider took the law into his own hands or not,” Mr Munga told EDAILY on phone.

“Nakuru County Police Commander, Hassan Barua, has taken up the matter, and we will issue a comprehensive statement soon. Meanwhile, let us wait for the investigations to be completed,” said Mr Munga.

The 42-seconds clip shows the driver of the rickshaw, plate number KTWB 757D, furiously hurling stones at the two policemen as they fled for their safety.

Whatever transpired between the officers and the Tuk Tuk driver is yet to be established. The attacker floored one of the officers, ostensibly after a wrestle.

He gets into his vehicle and starts driving off, seemingly in an attempt to run over the cops. The officers fought back by throwing stones at the irate driver.

The traffic police seemed unarmed and were overpowered by their attacker.

At one time when such attacks were rife, an order was issued allowing traffic police officers to be armed.

A number of social media users condemned the attack on police officers, saying Kenyans must respect the crown.

Others said the driver’s situation mirrors that of millions of Kenyans frustrated by police officers’ excesses
