Fresh details have emerged that President Uhuru Kenyatta is actually the one who initiated the famous Waiguru and Raila handshake.

Just a fortnight ago Kirinyaga county governor Anne Waiguru and  place President Uhuru Kenyatta at the center of the recent truce between opposition leader Raila Odinga and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

Raila and Waiguru have been the worst political enemies after Raila directly linked the county chief to the theft of Sh791 million at the National Youth Service (NYS) in November 2015 when she was then the Devolution Cabinet Secretary.

However, Waiguru paid Raila a visit at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi last week where they buried the hatchet and pledged to unite for the sake of the nation going forward.

Raila went ahead to accuse Uhuru of shielding Waiguru from the law after her name was stained in the first NYS saga, claiming that she remained free courtesy of Uhuru’s influence and power.

But according to the Standard, Uhuru heavily influenced the handshake between the two, in line with the Building Bridges Initiative co-founded by him and Rail after their truce on March 9.

The paper reports that Uhuru directed Waiguru to reach out to Raila, and ordered his Jubilee Party top officials Raphael Tuju (Secretary General) and David Murathe (Vice Chair) to organize and facilitate the meeting.

The meeting followed series of handshakes between Raila and fellow critics, including Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria and former Kiambu county chief William Kabogo.

Waiguru has since withdrawn a defamation case she had filed against Raila over the allegations.
