Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge boosted in defence over betting allegations

Daniel Sturridge joined West Brom on loan in January

Who knew even footballers bet and sometimes even get addicted or u can even bet on them leaving or staying at the club. Daniel Sturridge  will today be granted extra time to build his defence over betting allegations.

FA chiefs charged the Liverpool striker last week with a breach of their betting regulations after a string of wagers placed on his loan move last January.

Sturridge is due to put forward his case, but the chair of the FA’s judicial panel has received a request from his camp for extra time.

In a statement last week he claimed he had NEVER breached FA rules and would fight the charges.

Sturridge, 29, left Liverpool for a loan move to West Brom last January. The deal is believed to have promoted a string of bets from people close to him.

A cousin of his placed a £10,000 wager on him quitting Liverpool. The relative put the huge bet on him moving to Inter Milan.

At the time it was placed on January 17 this year, it was not clear which club Sturridge was joining — and would have netted a massive £27,000 payout. The family bet will now form a key part of the FA’s investigation into whether the £100,000-a-week player broke strict betting rules.
