Revealed: The Dylan Kerr – Mourinho Connection in Details

Dylan Kerr will no doubt be missed by Gor Mahia fans after his unexpected exit from the Green Army last week. The coach penned down a letter sighting that he was quiting his role with Kogallo in search of greener pastures.

Well, his search for greener Pastures has led him to South Africa where he has joined Black Leopards replacing  Joel Masutha.

Leopards fired Masutha after their loss at Cape Town City last week‚ which left the club one point above the relegation places with nine points from 11 games.

Well, in case you did not know, Dylan Kerr did not start coaching recently. The Englishman has been in the trade for some time now and even trained with some of the very best coaches the world has to offer.

Kerr‚ now 51‚ spent the early part of his playing career at now defunct Pretoria club Arcadia Shepherds‚ making a name for himself flying up and down the left wing before returning to Britain‚ where he was on the books of Leeds United when they won the Premier League in 1992

Kerr played until his late 30s for a variety of clubs in the lower leagues in England and then Scotland‚ where he won a cup medal with Kilmarnock‚ before hanging up his boots and embarking on his coaching badges.

Kerr did his Uefa A license in the same class with Jose Mourinho in Scotland and got his first coaching job in the USA before returning to South Africa to work as an assistant to his former club mate Sammy Troughton at Mpumalanga Black Aces‚ Thanda Royal Zulu and Nathi Lions.

Kerr branched out on his own in 2011 to become coach of Hai Phiong in Vietnam‚ Simba in Tanzania and then Gor Mahia of Kenya‚ who he took to the group phase of the African Confederation Cup this year.

Kerr will make his debut in charge against Bidvest Wits next Saturday‚ December 1 in Thohoyandou.

Gor Mahia are already in the market for Kerr’s replacement with assistant coach Zedekiah Zico Otieno taking charge of the team on interim basis.

Among those in contention for the vacant position at Gor include former AFC Leopards head coach Luc Eymael.

Eymael coached Ingwe in 2013 before falling out with the club.

It is also understood that Brazilian Roberto Oliveira is another top contender lined up as Kerr’s replacement. The 52-year-old, who is currently with Rwandan Premier League side, Rayon Sports, was in Nairobi when his current side beat Gor Mahia 2-1 in the Caf Confederations Cup group stage match last campaign
