If it’s not the childish Members of County Assembly exchanging blows and kicks, it is Members of the National Assembly having petty fights. They said that leaders are a reflection of they people they serve, this says a lot about us as Kenyans and the people we vote into office too.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino and his Starehe counterpart Charles ‘Jaguar’ Kanyi  were today ordered to apologize over a fight at Parliament grounds last year in October.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino and his Starehe counterpart Charles ‘Jaguar’ Kanyi have been ordered to apologise over a fight at Parliament grounds in October 2017. The two MPs were reprimanded by the National Assembly’s Committee of Power and Privilege for behaving in a manner that reflected adversely on the dignity and integrity of the House.

The two legislators exhanged blows in Parliament on October 10, 2017 after Babu Owino referred to President Uhuru Kenyatta as a leader in charge of a caretaker government, whose reign “will end soon.”

After the dramatic incident, a shouting match ensued with Owino insisting that he would not recognise President Kenyatta’s legitimacy. The physical confrontation between the two first time Parliamentarians triggered myriad reactions with Kenyans condemning the two for portraying intolerance, terming the incident shameful.

“What happened (in Parliament) was very unfortunate. I forgive Babu Owino. I also ask him to forgive me. However, I insist that Babu Owino must respect the president. Should he fail to respect the Head of State – again –, I will deal with him,” said Jaguar, when a addressing a press conference at the media centre in Parliament on Wednesday, October 11.

The two legislators have since, following the handshake between President Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga, made up and are often seen together in public sharing laughs.

The truth is, leaders are expected to set an example to the people they serve and they owe it to those who elected them to at least be well behaved. The reason MCAs have become a nuisance making headlines every other day over petty fights and arguments is because there are no laws or fines put in place that prevent them from behaving the way they do thus they always get away with their nasty behaviour.

What action do you think should be taken against national leaders who behave in such an irresponsible manner?
