Ruto’s Appetite For Maize Should Not Be Used to Castigate Him

The Storm surrounding deputy President William Ruto with regards to the now famous Maize scandal is far from over especially now that some shocking revelations were made by a section of MPs from the North Rift.

According to the members of Parliament led by Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, Ruto is the mastermind behind the maize shortage that has engulfed the country in the past few years.

Keter and his co-horts claim that Ruto has a well calculated plan that has even included discouraging people from the Rift Valley from engaging in Maize farming and instead adopt avocado and macadamia farming.

Defendants of the Deputy President have now come out to defend him from what they have termed as mere political witch-hunt.

According to Ruto’s allies led by Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, the National Cereals and Produce Board and Ministry of Agriculture already provided a list of businesspersons who sold maize and farmers who were claiming abnormal payment but Ruto’s name was not on that list.

The Majority Chief whip now claims that Keter and his friends are working under strict orders from Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

“If they want their 2022 presidential candidate to succeed, I advise them to use objective leadership but not that which is engineered by a certain family. The route that Keter and his colleagues are pursuing is not helpful to Kenyans,” said Washiali.

He says that Keter is under a huge pay check from Gideon and that is why he is making such reckless statements against the Deputy President.

“Kenyans know very well that Keter does not do anything for free. He lacks moral uprightness and we will soon unmask his behaviours,” said Washiali.

“This agenda is being pushed by money and we don’t take his statements with any seriousness. With his ugly background, Keter does not even have the standing to condemn anybody,” he added.

Despite receiving a backlash from Ruto’s allies, Keter and his friends have stood their ground and in fact asked the Director of Public Prosecutions to initiate investigations against the DP.

The legislators asked the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji to crack the whip on the country’s second in command and influential officers at Harambee House Annex.

“Farmers, you must know this: most of our problems involving maize and fertilizer have been brought about the Deputy President and his office. We want his office investigated,” Keter said.

The Deputy President on the other hand trough his Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam has challenged the lawmakers to produce evidence to back their claims.

“How do I comment on mere allegations that someone says another one stole? Let them give you the evidence then we can talk,” he said.

Last week, CS Kiunjuri said that 62 individuals who are suspected to have irregularly supplied maize to the NCPB and were paid millions of shillings, will be charged in court.

Do you think that Ruto’s alleged involvement in the maize scandal is mere political witch-hunt?
