‘Ed Woodward told to make double Jose Mourinho signing’ who were they?

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was left frustrated at just three new signings coming through the door at Old Trafford in the summer as Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant all arrived.

However, the Portuguese boss wanted a further two signings with a centre-back a priority.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was reluctant to break the bank for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld or Leicester’s Harry Maguire and the decision has proved costly with United keeping one clean sheet in 12 league matches.

“They need to reinforce at the back especially centre backs, one or two” Dimitar Berbatov.

Berbatov, who won two Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, believes centre-back additions should be a priority for his former club.

And he’s urged Woodward to meet Mourinho’s demands if he wants to get United challenging for titles once again.

“They need to reinforce at the back especially centre backs, one or two,” Berbatov said.

“In every other position they have several quality players and everything they need, so just defence needs reinforcing. Hopefully they can find one or two and then they should be okay.
