Will the drama surrounding Uganda President Yoweri Museveni apparent beef with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino ever end?
Having been declared a persona non grata in Uganda, Babu Owino responded to his ban by declaring that he won’t be ccowed in his quest to champion for democracy not only in Uganda but in Africa.
This came after the Ugandan government directed a letter to the Kenyan Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma saying that Babu has been declared a persona non grata “within the borders of Uganda and will not be permitted without special clearance from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”
The letter accused the former UON chair of undermining the legitimacy of the elected government of Uganda. According to Uganda’s Internal Affairs Minister General Haji A. Odongo, ‘Babu and his Ugandan counterpart Bobi Wine used seditious words against the democratic and legitimate rule of H.E President Yoweri Museveni.’
In his response to the letter, Babu said that no amount of intimidation will stop him from working towards liberating the people of Africa and that his relationship with Hon. Bobi Wine shall not be jeopardized.
“Honorable Bobi Wine and I remain brothers in ideology and no amount of intimidation will stop us from working together to liberate the people of Africa! I wish to categorically state that General Haji’s ban will not deter me from agitating for greater democratic space in Uganda, Kenya and indeed, the entire continent. I will not falter in my pursuit for respect for human rights and the meaningful involvement of the youth in our nations’ affairs,” read part of Babu’s statement.
As if to fuel the war of words even further, the ever vocal Babu Owino has today posted a piece of art on his social media accounts showing him in robes meant for war. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on the other hand is shown with his heavily built muscles apparently ready for war too.
It remains to be seen if Babu Owino will finally have President Museveni respond to him all by himself.
