He is really having a hard time and he is going to work really hard for his freedom. Migori Governor Okoth Obado will spend another night at Gigiri Police Station pending ruling on application for 15 days detention as requested by the police.
Police sought to hold the embattled county boss for 15 days as they investigate his illegal gun possession case.
8 guns were discovered in his Nairobi and Migori homes on Monday. EACC detectives were in search of documents that could help in the probing of a Sh2 billion embezzlement case.
Obado through his lawyer Cliff Ombetta told the court that one of the five guns found in his Lavington home belonged to him. He clarified that it was verified and returned to him and so were the other four belonging to his bodyguards.
Ombetta also said that the three guns in question were found in the guard’s house in Migori and not Obado’s.
But the prosecution led by Catherine Mwaniki argued that they need time “to find out if there are probable suspects, to record statements of witnesses, to go through phone data of probable suspects.”
“It is in public interest that we ask for ample time to rule out the possibility of the use of the firearms in any crime,” Ms Mwaniki said.
Obado in his bail application noted that he has cooperated with security agencies and will continue to do so. He further maintained that he will not interfere with witnesses in the case.
“I pray that this court releases me on bail pending the conclusion of this trial. There are no compelling reasons brought forth to deny my constitutional rights to bail pending charge or trial,” he said.
His bail ruling, Kibera Law Courts Chief magistrate Joyce Gandani said will be delivered on Friday.
