From a ‘Shetani’ to a Darling. The Journey to Raila-Waiguru Reunion

Do you think that Kenyan Politicians have been taking Kenyans for a ride?

If you ever told someone that ODM Chief Raila Odinga and Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru will one day bury the hatchet, you would have been deemed as a day dreamer. These are two individuals that were so against each other that one even sued the other for defamation.

Raila and Waiguru’s new found friendship has highly been attributed to the handshake that culminated to the building bridges initiative.

The two buried the hatchet and decided to forget the past. The two were previously embroiled in a court case in which the Kirinyaga County boss sued the former Prime Minister over utterances he made linking her to the loss of millions of shillings during the first National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

“Held a meeting with Governor  and agreed to “let by-gones be by-gones” and leave the matter of the NYS scandal in the hands of investigators. She said her case against me is now settled in the spirit of reconciliation that the nation has embarked on,” said Raila Odinga.

What would have necessitated the current change of tone from Raila Odinga and Anne Waiguru?

Raila Odinga was a fierce critic of Anne Waiguru. He was the whistle-blower in the NYS season 1 scandal. The NASA chief even referred to waiguru as a “Devil” loosely translated to “Shetani”

Raila even dragged Deputy President William Ruto’s name in the multi-million scandal that almost brought the National Youth Service to it’s knees.

It is indeed true when they say that there are no permanent enemies in politics.

According to Waiguru, the matter between him and Raila Odinga stands settled “in the spirit of cohesion and reconciliation in the country.”

Early in the year, Waiguru had requested the High Court to allow the case against Raila to proceed. Raila had requested that the hearing be stopped until he files an appeal challenging a ruling issued last November.

The ruling allowed the governor to conceal certain information regarding her lifestyle.

Raila had released a dossier claiming President Uhuru failed to include Waiguru’s name on a list of corrupt State officers.

Uhuru’s list saw several senior government officials, including Cabinet Secretaies lose their jobs.
