When will he be fired? Kiunjuri makes another shocking revelation

CS Kiunjuri: More than half of all maize in Kisumu NCPB depot discoloured

When will Kiunjuri be fired? Because it seems to me that he is incompetent and irredeemable. The man continues to prove that he is the wrong person for the Agricultural Ministry and if something is not done, he may turn the country into something worse than a desert.

The embattled CS now says 60% of maize stored in the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot in Kisumu is discoloured.

Addressing the press in Kisumu on Tuesday after an inspection by an inter-ministerial team, CS Kiunjuri said they were yet to ascertain whether or not the 300,000 bags of maize were fit for human consumption.

According to the CS, the Kisumu depot has a capacity of 900,000 bags of maize and last year received 600,000 bags. Kiunjuri also stated that an inter-ministerial team would visit all the depots in the country to ascertain the safety of maize in the stores.

While announcing that a comprehensive report of the nationwide inspection of the NCPB stores will be released on Friday, the CS said maize established to be bad will either be destroyed or used as animal feeds.

Kiunjuri also defended the composition of the 15-member sugar task force tasked with finding solutions within 30 days for the revival of the sugar industry.

On Sunday, Rift Valley MPs asked President Uhuru to sack Kiunjuri and replace him with someone brilliant.

“All the country’s main agricultural activities are riddled with problems. The time has come for radical changes. We need a national conference and strategy, and a new way of thinking in the agricultural sector,” Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said on Sunday.

“The CS doesn’t know how the country’s agricultural map looks like. The President must send him home. We will not allow Kericho and Rift Valley farmers to be discriminated against and left to appear as if we are just but cry babies,” Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot said .
