WCB poised for a tough battle against magufuli

The past two days must have been a nightmare for  team Wasafi  after the release of their song ‘ Mwanza’  which was collabo between bongo stars Diamond and Rayvanny.

Even after the meeting between the artist Rayvanny  and the council which many had hoped will change the mind and perception of the Board, The Tanzanian Art Council went ahead and  insisted that the ban on the song continues and will not be lifted.

“Our reasons to ban the song were very clear and we decided to have a sit up with the team, we are aware that Diamond Platinumz is not in the country but we  had a meeting with Rayvanny and his manager today.

We have asked them to provide us with the lyrics of the song  that we insist is inappropriate and also told them to pull down the song from the social media platforms; especially on YouTube. We are insisting that they pull it down and they should know we are not playing games.” –  Godfrey Mngereza

The council openly rejected the plea by WCB which was to allow the song on social media and to be used during their Wasafi Festival.

The artists were also slapped with individual fines of 3Million Tanzanian shillings each and the BASATA secretary General added that WCB will pay an equal fine since the song was produced under that record label.

This is not the first time that WCB artists have landed in trouble  after finding themselves on the wrong side of the law.

WCB Diamond Platinumz has a record of being arrested after sharing a controversial video back in April this year . The Tanzanian government has also strictly made efforts to monitor social media content.

Although the artists have not reacted after the meeting, they seem to be ready to go head to head with the law as they still have not pulled down the song…

Do you think the Tanzanian government should be this rigid and strict?
