Safaricom subscribers were for the better part of Friday evening affected by a network outage that hampered call, messaging and data operations.
According to Safaricom, the network hitch was caused by multiple fiber link cuts that affected critical transmission equipment.
“This has resulted in loss of Voice and SMS services in Coast and Lower Eastern regions, as well as general data unavailability across the network, affecting services operated through the internet,” said Safaricom in a statement.

The mobile network provider, however, assured that its team was working to restore normal service.
“We are working to restore the services as soon as possible, and apologize for any inconvenience caused,” reads the statement.
“We wish to notify our customers and partners that we have all voice and data services impacted by the outage that affected the network,” said Saafricom.”
