Former Chelsea boss makes shocking claim about Morata

Former Chelsea player and manager Ruud Gullit has praised striker Alvaro Morata.

Morata scored two goals against Crystal Palace as Chelsea cruised to a 3-1 win at the Stamford Bridge. Gullit, in his Monday analysis on BBC Sports, said that the Spaniard is always criticized for a poor day on the pitch but what he needs are the right position and the right service to better his performance.

“I have heard a lot of people say that this Chelsea team is missing a top-class striker, but they have one in the 26-year-old Spain international – they just need to use him in the right way. He needs that cross to be played in quickly because he is reacting to it. Instead, he makes his move forward but the ball does not come.

“Hopefully this performance will give him the confidence boost he needs. The only thing he did wrong in the game was when he missed the chance to get his hat-trick when he ran clear at the end.

“He had so much time, and was in a great position – and then by looking down at the ball, he as good as phoned the goalkeeper and said “hello, I am going to chip it… now” so the goalkeeper knew immediately what he was going to do,” Gullit wrote.

Maurizio Sarri termed Morata ‘fragile’ in his post-match comment though.
