Mr Orlando was arrested at a house in Embakasi, Nairobi and was detained at Muthaiga Police Station on the night of his arrest. However, the following evening, the detectives transferred him to Gigiri Police Station which is regarded as one of the “safest” stations in Nairobi.

Did you know some police stations are more safe than others?

Mr. Orlando was questioned about his movements on the night when the late Miss Kimani was murdered as the detectives said he had crucial information that could be useful in the case.

“We wanted him to account for his movements on that night; we know he holds a lot of information central to this investigation,” said one of the sources in the investigations team.

Orlando was said to have been the second person seen in the passenger’s seat of Jacque Maribe’s car with Irungu the night Monica Kimani was murdered. His freedom today comes after Chief Investigating Officer, Maxwell Otieno dropped the application to detain him.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Atambo, Jennings was directed to report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) every week on Wednesdays for a period of two months. According to the Prosecution, the suspect is likely to be treated as a State Witness once the investigations are complete.

As far as the Monica Kimani murder case is concerned, Jowie Irungu now remains the only suspect to remain locked up and held in police remand after his fiance and co-accused, Jacque Maribe was released on bail this week.

Her freedom came when Justice James Wakiaga made a ruling that granted the journalist a Ksh. 2 million surety bond with an alternative of a Ksh. 1 million cash bail with three sureties of the same amount.

Irungu and Maribe had been charged with the murder of business woman, Monica Kimani who was found dead in a bathtub at her apartment along Dennis Pritt road in Kilimani on September 19, 2018.

The two pleaded not guilty to the charges but Jowie was denied bail.

The matter is set for hearing on January 7, 2019.
