Matteo-Guendouzi

When you commit a crime or in this case an infringement u have to face the consequences. Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi was sent off against Blackpool last night. Guendouzi was shown two yellow cards in the Carabao Cup win over Blackpool last night.

The French ace trudged off after 56 minutes but the Gunners held on to record a 2-1 victory against the League One outfit.

Focus now turns to the weekend clash against Liverpool – which Guendozui will be unavailable for.

There was confusion after the midfielder dismissal over whether he would be banned after a rule change at the beginning of the season. The FA tweaked the regulations so yellow cards won’t transfer across competitions and are instead specific to each tournament.

So if Guendouzi was shown just a yellow card in the Carabao Cup last night, that would not be added to his tally in the Premier League.

However, the FA confirmed that red cards remain unaffected by the rule change, meaning Guendouzi will be suspended against Liverpool as he needs to serve a one-game ban.

He’s likely to return to the side next week when Arsenal host Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League.

Despite seeing red, Gunners boss Unai Emery was happy with his summer signing.

“That is football,” Emery said.

“Things can be positive or negative like an injury, a red card, 90 minutes of hard work that don’t allow you to play other matches.

“A red card is like that. We have a lot of players looking to play, to help us and take responsibility.

“His quality for the team, I am going to prepare with other players for the big match.

“He’s playing well. He’s playing with a spirit – [he’s] competitive.

“The action is… it’s an action, he plays that action as a normal moment in the game.

“He is pushing behind the player. He is playing with the spirit I want today and every match.

“We have spoken. It is very important to control, but I don’t think he lost control. The red card is one circumstance.”
