Raila Odinga Junior on Thursday declared that his sister, Winnie Odinga, was fit to become Kenya’s first female president. In an interview, Raila Junior stated that unlike his sister, he was not interested in politics but was ready to give his support in the endeavour.

“I really hope Winnie is going to be the first president of Kenya because she is really passionate about politics and I really encourage her to do as much as she can.

“The fact that she is a woman does not restrict her from doing what she loves because she is so determined, and I really wish the rest of Kenyans will see that determination as well,” he explained.

Earlier in the year, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi stated that Winnie was on track to take over the executive seat that had eluded her father a record five times. “Raila is old now and it is my prediction that Winnie Odinga will become the first woman president of Kenya after William Ruto. That you can take to the bank,” he proclaimed.

On her part, Winnie has taken an active role in Kenya politics with her being present at the NASA Anti-IEBC protests in 2017.

Winnie accompanied NASA supporters in the demonstrations along Nairobi’s Kenyatta Avenue and later addressed them at a separate rally.

Nimeona leo mmejitokeza kwa wingi, asante sana (I have seen that today you have come out in large numbers, thank you very much),” Ms Odinga told the protestors.

Earlier in the week, Winnie sat in a high-level meeting on Raila’s first engagement as a special African Union envoy. She accompanied his father on the courtesy call to the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) South Africa where, in a video shared on Twitter, she is seen taking notes from the deliberations.
