Date When DP William Ruto Will Know Weston Hotel’s Fate

The National Land Commission (NLC) has set the date when Deputy President William Ruto will know the fate of one of the controversial Weston Hotel.

The term of the current commissioners expires on February 19, 2019 and it is expected that NLC will give its final verdict regarding the ownership of the contested parcel of land before then.

Acting Chairperson Abigael Mbagaya stated that the commission will put to rest speculation around ownership of the land where Weston Hotel sits on in Lang’ata after probing the matter conclusively.

“We are looking at everybody. The law is very clear on how we should handle issues. We are going to analyze the presentations made by everybody and we will make a decision,” Mbagaya added.

The commissioners are set to analyze reports from the director of survey and the chief land registrar in the Ministry of Lands after the commission wrapped up the hearings on the land tussle.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) is accusing Weston Hotel Limited, the group that owns Weston Hotel in Lang’ata of acquiring the land from it fraudulently.

Weston Hotel Limited through its lawyers, however, claims that it acquired the land in a procedural way.

“I think it is in the interest of everybody that since the authority has been allocated alternative land, there is no purpose in denying my client full rights to the property when the plaintiff cannot prove that it was not acquired legally,” Senior counsel AhmedNassir Abdullahi had argued in the past.
