Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has issued new directives on noisy nightclubs and bars in Nairobi estates to be closed  until candidates are done with the  ongoing national exams.

In a statement to newsrooms, the Governor charged the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and security agencies to enforce the order.

“Governor Sonko has directed the NEMA, the Nairobi County Liquor Control Board and security agencies to ensure that the noise in the estates is minimized,” the statement read in part.

Sonko noted that the move will allow Class Eight and Form Four candidates to prepare well for their examinations without any disturbance.

NEMA director for enforcement Njoki Mukiri maintained that they will comply with Sonko’s directive since the mandate was under City Hall officials.

Early this month the County government of Siaya banned all discos in the region ahead of this year’s national examinations.

County Commissioner Michael Ole Tialal said the move would give candidates enough time to prepare for the examinations uninterrupted.

Speaking during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at Siaya County stadium, Ole Tialal directed all the chiefs and their assistants across the county to ensure the ban is implemented with immediate effect.

The commissioner stated that this year’s candidates for both KCPE and KCSE examinations need to be accorded a conducive environment to be able to concentrate on their revision so as to perform better.

He further decried the rising cases of teenage pregnancies which currently stands at 42% in the county, noting that this has contributed to the high rate of school dropout among the girls in the region.

Mr Ole Tialal has therefore issued a stern warning to the perpetrators that the long arm of law will catch up with them.

Ole Tialal reiterated that the county administration will not relent in the fight against illicit brew.

Also Embu and Budalangi banned night discos inorder to save candidates.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) commenced on Tuesday and will be completed Thursday while KCSE exam theory papers will start on November 5 and end on November 29.
