Lost But Found: Missing Homabay County Mace Recovered from Official

After weeks of investigations, the missing Homa Bay County mace has finally been found. Homa bay county assembly Deputy Serjeant-at-arms Iddah Arudi was on Sunday arrested for allegedly stealing the assembly mace two weeks ago.

Homa Bay Police Commander Marius Tum said Ms. Arudi was arrested on Sunday evening while allegedly trying to sneak the mace back into the assembly.

Arudi was the first county assembly official to record a statement with the police over the alleged theft of the mace.

Mr. Tum said they had been hunting for suspects linked to the loss of the mace since the matter was reported to police.

He added that the mace will be used as an exhibit when Ms. Arudi is arraigned in court.

A day after the loss of the mace, the County Assembly went ahead and formed an Ad-hoc Committee of 11 members to investigate the matter and table the report in the House within 14 days.

The proposal was tabled in the Assembly by Kakello Kokwanyo Ward MCA Dan Were who demanded that investigations be done and the culprit be brought to book.

Morning sittings at the Homa Bay County Assembly had to be delayed for more than 30 minutes after the mace went missing two weeks ago.

The mace is said to have been stolen from the office after a fight broke at the plenary. The fight saw saw Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo roughed up by male MCAs.

The mace was reportedly removed from an office often seen as well-secured with electric locks that can only be opened by chipped cards and by authorised personnel.
