‘What’s Next?’Leicester City club ambassador visits King Power on way to training after owner’s death

Loosing a club owner  Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha who was one of five people killed after his helicopter crashed shortly after Leicester’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Saturday can never be easy to handle.

His helicopter took off from the pitch but crash landed moments later just outside the stadium grounds, killing all those on board.

Leicester confirmed the tragic news last night and have postponed their Carabao Cup match against Southampton, due to be played tomorrow evening, as the club begin to try and cope with the aftermath.

Leicester players usually train the day after a game but Sunday’s session was cancelled.

It is unclear if training will resume today but club ambassador Birchenall was heading down to the training base this morning, knowing there ‘won’t be a dry eye among any of the staff.’

“I’m stunned,” he said.

“I just had to come down early before I go to the training ground. I can only imagine what it’s like.

“I needed to see the tributes. My thoughts are just like every one in Leicestershire, whether you are a football fan or not, it’s so sad and all the others in the helicopter… our thoughts go out to them.

“A difficult time for our club. I had to pay my respects to a lovely guy. A chairman of the community. We owe everything to him.

“We wouldn’t have won it [Premier League] without him. We wouldn’t have got near it without him. There won’t be a dry eye among any of the staff today.”

Srivaddhanaprabha took over the club in 2010 and helped guide them to promotion to the Premier League in 2014.

After avoiding relegation in their first season back in the top flight in 2014-15, they shocked the world by lifting the Premier League crown against the odds in the next.

In 2016-17, they embarked on an historic first-ever Champions League campaign, where the Foxes punched above their weight once again as they reached the quarter-final of Europe’s top competition.

They have since gone on to become an established top-flight club. Leicester’s next Premier League match will be on Saturday when they visit Cardiff.

The first match at the King Power Stadium since the tragedy will be on Saturday, November 10 when the Foxes welcome Burnley. May their souls rest in Eternal Peace
