The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination is expected to kick of tomorrow, Tuesday, October 30. The 1,060,759 candidates sitting for the national examination are today expected to be taken through a rehearsal exercise where they will be briefed on what is expected of them.

Education Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed will oversee the exercise in various schools starting from Joseph Kang’ethe Primary school and afterwards give a briefing on the preparedness of the schools to start the exams tomorrow. The examination materials arrived safely in the various examination centers across the country ahead of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam.

In Kajiado County, Deputy Commissioner Charles Wambugu acknowledged the arrival of exam materials assuring parents and candidates of their safety.

“Those who wish to cheat in exams can go ahead but they should know that the government machinery to secure the exams is intact,” said the commissioner.

A few areas in Baringo county have been hit by insecurity forcing towns like Locale, Silale, Kapedo and Pomelo to be merged to enable the 98 candidates to sit their exams in a secure environment. The examination center is heavily manned after recent attacks that left three people dead.

With the rehearsals going on today, exam officials will be on the look out to confirm that school’s registration match with center codes and registered candidates against their photos to deal with the issue of impostors.  The sitting arrangements will also be confirmed, with officials ensuring that candidates are placed at least 1.22 meters apart.

Supervisors will also ensure that all desks are clean, with no form of writings on them and that classes have adequate lighting and ventilation and appropriate seats for candidates’ comfort as they write the exam.

The examination expected to commence Tuesday will begin with the candidates writing the Mathematics and English language tests in the morning followed by the English composition later in the afternoon. On Wednesday, they will write their Kiswahili lugha and Insha papers while the last paper, Social Studies and Religious Education, will be administered on Thursday morning.

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed wished candidates success and assured them of security insisting that the government is committed to delivering a credible examination.
