Migori Women Rep injured in a grisly car accident

Migori Woman Representative Dr. Pamela Odhiambo has been injured and her bodyguard killed in a road accident at Winyo area on the Homa Bay – Rongo highway.

Confirming the Sunday morning accident, Rongo OCPD Peter Kirui said the double cabin vehicle the two were travelling in veered off the road and rolled several times.

The bodyguard, Fred Owich, is reported to have lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid hitting a boda-boda rider.

The aide died on the spot while the woman representative sustained chest injuries and was rushed to a Kisumu hospital.

This comes as the government has resorted to bringing back the effective “Michuki rules” which helped restore sanity on Kenyan roads.

In a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, Cabinet Secretaries James Macharia (Transport, Infrastructure) and Dr. Fred Matiang’i (Interior) attributed the high road accidents to “lack of observance of the laws governing traffic management.”

The ministers have, therefore, given a grace period of two weeks for all stakeholders to comply with the new rules.

“In the recent past, there has been an upsurge in the number of road accidents involving Public Service Vehicles, mainly attributed to lack of observance of the laws governing traffic management. These accidents have led to loss of lives and suffering,

“Therefore, effective Monday, 12th November 2018, any PSV vehicle, drivers, SACCOs/Transport companies, passengers and other relevant parties that fail to comply with the provisions of the NTSA Act and the Traffic Act will be firmly dealt with in accordance with the law,” reads the statement.
