Migori County Makes Headlines Again For all the Bad Reasons

From an absentee governor who was a guest of the state, to unruly MCAs, the name Migori County has become synonymous with many Kenyans now.

The county is once again in the news after four county officers were on Thursday grilled over theft of computers at the county’s  Youth Enterprise Fund department.

The four; Dominic Odhiambo, Geoffrey Akoko, Fredrick Omange and Joseph Nyamari were arrested on Wednesday but were later released on free bond pending police investigations.

Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge said the four officers working at the county’s youth department  were quizzed by investigative officers before recording further statements with the police.

Mr. Nthenge said the two computers disappeared mysteriously on the night of Tuesday, September 25, adding that there was no break in.

The county police boss said they suspect that the theft of the two computers was an inside job by the officers working at the department and they must be held liable.

He added that the police are following crucial leads to unearth the suspects behind the theft.

Migori governor Okoth Obado is expected to finally return home anytime soon to finally take charge of the running of county affairs. Migori county residents have complained of poor services during the governor’s absence and the governor will now be hoping to correct the wrongs.

The governor yesterday thanked the people of Migori and the county staff for standing with him during his troubles with the law. He also called on leaders, regardless of their political or ethnic affiliations to embrace peace and unity so that they steer the development agenda of Migori County together.

“Let me take this opportunity to thank the People of Migori, Members of the County Assembly of Migori, the Staff of the County Government of Migori, my supporters, my legal team, friends and my family for standing with me during this trying moment. I also thank the court for listening to our request and granting me the bail. This has now given me opportunity to effectively work for the people of Migori as their governor. I promise to respect the court and abide by the conditions it set. I urge all our leaders, regardless of their political or ethnic affiliations, to embrace peace and unity so that as a family we steer forward the development agenda of our county.
Thank you so much; may God bless you all,” said Obado.
