List of Shame: The five Cabinet Secretaries Sleeping on their Jobs

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been on record telling Kenyans that he wants his big four agenda to be the legacy he leaves behind once he hangs the boots in 2022.

But how will he achieve that with an incompetent cabinet? Uhuru’s appointments have been based on several criteria but competence has not been one of them.

What is more worrying is the fact that the President has never cracked the whip on corrupt cabinet secretaries or even those who under perform. In his latest cabinet, the President brought in some new faces but he made sure the ones in the previous one got plum jobs as ambassadors.

Having said that, here is a list of five incompetent Ministers who have failed Kenyans and should see the door. This is not to say that the others are good.

  1. Mwangi Kiunjuri- Ministry of Agriculture

Man of the moment. He has been publicly pointed out by the President, but he is still on the job. This should have gone like yesterday.

He will be remembered for the infamous sh 11.3 billion maize scandal at the NCPB. The money meant to pay farmers went to traders after a well schemed plan from the board members.

Kiunjuri is also on the spot over the contaminated sugar saga. More than 1.4 million bags of sugar laced with mercury were discovered in the country during his tenure. Let’s not even talk about the the fertilizer scandal.

2. Charles Keter- Ministry of Energy

Charles Keter tops the list of the most incompetent Cabinet Secretaries in government. The man was in power when KPLC swindled Kenyans with inflated power bills which cannot be explained up to now.

He is also on record defending senior Kenya Power Officials after they were implicated in the infamous scandal that saw millions of taxpayers’ money lost through procurement of faulty transformers. Even though he retrieved his statement after an uproar, damage had already been done.

It is also during his tenure that the cost of power has gone over the rooftop forcing several SMEs to close shop.

3. James Macharia- Ministry of Transport

This is the champion when it comes to not delivering. In his first year in office, Kenyans have died like flies on the roads. 2018 has basically been a bloodbath of Kenyan roads.

I was surprised when I heard that the Ministry was re-introducing The Michuki laws to tame run away road carnages. The question is where had these laws gone?

Macharia is lazy and incompetent and should be the first out the door if Uhuru means business.

4. Peter Munya-Ministry of Trade

How this one became a Minister is still a puzzle even to me. Now Munya lost the Meru gubernatorial post to an old man Kiraitu Murungi, that should have spoken a lot about his incompetence.

The man is good when it comes to siring babies with slayqueens. The only problem is that he runs away from his duties as a father just like he runs away from serving Wananchi.

As governor, he approved the construction of a sh 200 million golf course on the Meru ASK ground. He also approved the importation of four million bags of maize from Uganda contrary to a submission from Agriculture Ministry that maize from Uganda and Tanzania should not be allowed into the country.

5. Rashid Echesa- Ministry of Sports

We shouldn’t even be talking about Echesa because he is not supposed to be a Minister in the first place. He doesn’t have the qualifications.

But now that he is here, he has decided that he will be remembered for trying to blackmail Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala with fake nude photos.

Recently, photos of Nyayo stadium emerged on the Internet. Everyone should be ashamed that the stadium which was closed  for renovations more than two years ago still looks like a graveyard. Let’s not forget that Jubilee promised us five stadiums in their first term, they have delivered Rashid Echesa.
