For one decade, Mama Rosa Akinyi has been a staunch disciple of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). She even vowed to leave Kenya if Jubilee won the general elections.
Akinyi often wears colourful orange attires, complete with messages printed on boards and bright orange headgears to all ODM functions.
Akinyi has often said that her journey with the Odingas began with Ford-Kenya, then NDP (National Development Party), NARC (National Alliance of Rainbow Coalition) and now ODM. She says that even if Raila leaves ODM to form a ‘Jembe Party,’ she will gladly follow him.
She is such a Raila fanatic that she was fainted when she heard that the former Prime Minister had lost to President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2013 general elections.
“I fainted when I heard that Raila had lost. I was told it was hypertension. I was rushed to the hospital, where the doctor jokingly told me that, ‘Mama, hapa hatuna dawa ya Raila’.” she once told a local daily.
Mama Chungwa says she has met Raila severally, and that the former Prime Minister is very fond of her.
Revelations have also been made of how the ODM Party helped her settle hospital bills for her now late son at the Kenyatta National hospital.
This though was after a social media outcry with some sections of Kenyans seemingly bashing the party for taking long to come to her aid.
Mama Chungwa had in the past requested the ODM Party to help her get a decent house since the one she had was in a deplorable state.
Online supporters of ODM have urged the party to consider nominating mama chungwa to a political post given her unending support for the party. They hailed her a true heroine for putting her life on the line defending the party.
Did the party stand with her when her 2 sons were hospitalized n she didn’t have any means? No. It took an appeal by a good Samaritan who posted on Buyer Beware for the public to see her plight. The party or ODM politicians were nowhere in sight

Yes! The party paid the bills! I can attest to that ….it was at Kenyatta hospital…she was given money to go clear those bills.

After a social media outcry. Did they have to wait for social media to point out how they’ve neglected her? They only responded to save face

The party will only send condolences, attend burials, then?? @TheODMparty couldn’t consider nominating mama chungwa even after putting her life on the line defending the party for so many years. I wont be surprised if wait for the other chungwa guy to die for the party to act.
