On behalf of Royal Media Services company, Citizen TV’s managing Director Wachira Waruru has written to the High Court to show support for Jacque Maribe’s release on bail.

This comes after Justice James Wakiaga ruled yesterday that anchor Jacque Maribe and her fiance Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu  remain in police custody till Tuesday, October 30, when ruling on their bail application will be made.

In Wachira’s letter he has vouched for Maribe’s conduct and illustrated the employee as an exceptional worker.”Due to her exceptional performance she has been appointed to the position of Friday’s prime time news anchor on the station,” he said.

Prosecutor Mwaniki opposed the release of the duo arguing that key witnesses in the case are not yet protected. and that Irungu had confirmed being a trained security agent known to influential politicians, hence his release can intimidate the witnesses.

The defense lawyer Katwa Kigen on the other hand representing Maribe argued on the other hand that the court ought to treat individuals equally, and that denying Maribe bail because of her influence would be tantamount to discrimination and infringement on her rights.

RMS Managing Director has however declared in a statement that Maribe has had a clean record adding that her character over the years is not questionable.

“Having engaged he r for the last six years, and assessing her performance, we hereby vouch for her character and recommend for her admission to bail,” he said.

Ms Maribe, 30, was arrested on September 29 over the murder of Ms Kimani, 28. She and her fiancé, Mr Joseph Kuria Irungu, have denied killing Ms Kimani, whose body was found in the bathtub at her Lamuria Gardens apartment on September 19.

There was also an argument in court about whether Maribe should be allowed to return to work at Citizen TV which the court is expected to give a ruling on.

“She joined the company as a reporter on Citizen Television and was later promoted to the position of senior reporter on the same station. Arising from the promotion, she was assigned huge national and international events which she undertook successfully,” Macharia narrated in the letter.

“I am a well-known TV journalist. Most Kenyans are conversant with my job and can easily spot me anywhere, making it impossible to jump bail,” In an affidavit filed in court through lawyer Katwa Kigen, Ms Maribe said

She added that she is willing to surrender her passport to the court, adding that as single mother she is the sole provider for her child.

Waruru revealed that Maribe has taken leave “to attend to personal issues” and further recommended that she be released as she will not jump bail.

During the bail hearing, Justice James Wakiaga said he personally did not know what Maribe was doing at Citizen TV, arguing that bail terms should not remove anyone from gainful income but pledged to assess the prosecution’s concern.

Based on Maribe’s character and the charges against her do you think she should be awarded bail?
